While studying IT in Brno, I’ve met plenty of people and with few of them I am still in contact. One of my friends moved to Norway and then to Barcelona and I was thinking about visiting him in there while travelling from Canary Islands. We had plenty of common back in Brno and it is still there. My friend was in Barcelona from 24.9.2016 and my flight ticket from Fuerteventura was booked on 17.9., so I had some time for travelling. I posted a public message on couchsurfing.com website and I received a message from Ramon. Ramon has a farm close to Girona and he wrote me very nice message about what is around there. I was really interested.
For 3 days I was working on my master’s thesis in Barcelona hostel and then I booked a ride from Barcelona to Girona. It was my first experience with Bla Bla car and Enric, the driver, was not really into speaking English, but I already had some experience with Spanish language and I was able to google-translate the most important words and we understood each other quite well. He told me about Catalunia – about its richness, about their language and differences from Spain and also about unofficial Catalan referendum that decided about its separation from Spain. Spain doesn’t respect that referendum, so everything is staying as it was and some people are quite mad about that. He also told me about his farm and family and how he grows vegetables. In the end I really enjoyed that ride.
Ramon picked me up close to Girona and we went to his farm. From the beginning he was really nice. He had this positive energy and he was always smiling. He was also able to speak in English easily, so there were no problems for me. When we arrived to the farm I was amazed.
Two dogs, India and Ross, greeted me and I started playing with them. They competed for being petted 🙂 Ramon has plenty of chicken, ducks, geese and also beautiful japanese rooster, few turtles, and this black swan that was kind of kissing me when I was petting her. Ramon loves all kinds of flowers. Farm was nicely colorful and I was able to get some fiqs from the trees. Yummy!
Together we went to see Salvator Dali’s houses in Pubol and Port Lligat. In Pubol he lived in local Castle. Ramon told me that each village used to have castle there. Dali lived in this one. It was quite nice place inflicted with Dali’s excentricity.
Still, It was nothing compared to his Port Lligat house. This house was built spontaneously. Started as a small house and then during Dali’s life, new rooms were built. These rooms reflected his life. I really liked this kind of no-fixed-plan house.
While inside, our guide told us about this circular room with nice acoustics. I used to sing with choir and I was thinking that the acoustics is going to be the same from what I knew about these kind of spaced. But boy, it was amazing. I was standing there for some time and I felt my voice resonating like never before. I will make a room for me like this one day 🙂 Dali was obsessed with elephants and eggs. You can see it nearly everywhere in there.
We also visited Girona. The name sounded somehow similar to me. After seeing first bit of it, I have realized it is actually the place where few chapters of Game of Thrones were shot. It felt like Jamie and Cersei Lannister are just behind the corner. Girona is much more Catalan than Barcelona. In there, I have seen plenty of Catalan flags supporting its independence. Ramon invited me for some local food. I had some squids, olive bread and more delicious food. The whole day just felt perfect.
The other day, we went to Cadaques and in there we were snorkeling with small shiny fish around us and then we went to see L’Escala and Costa Brava. These sky colors kept me speechless.
After visiting moon-like Fuerteventura, I really enjoyed all this vegetation around me. Just look at the photos.
I was quite sad about leaving Ramon’s farm. This place was incredible. I went to visit my friend in Barcelona. We had plenty of time for ourselves and we didn’t stop talking for 4 evenings. It was nice to see this guy again. Hopefully, I will return to Barcelona again. This place has everything. It is sunny, but not too hot, there is a beach, there is a beautiful nature around and of course – Spanish people and their temperament. See you soon Barcelona.
